RYAN GRAY SMITH started Gray Design Studio after six years of working with glass artist Dale Chihuly as head of his architectural department. Formally trained in architecture, he has always wanted to pursue the dream of building furniture and designing lighting as a way to satisfy the inner drive that all architects have. The same problems in designing a space are just as fascinating when designing objects for that space. The materials are all the same, whether it is a beautifully finished piece of architecture or a beautifully finished piece of furniture. Gray Design seeks to combine his love of architecture with the joy of making architecturally inspired objects for a space. Gray Design Studio is named after his late grandfather's design studio, which he founded in Philadelphia in the 1950s.
